Springdale and Zion National Park are 2.5 hours drive from Las Vegas, NV and 4 hours from Salt Lake City, UT. Springdale and the surrounding Zion National Park area offer many activities to keep you busy for several days. The list below is just a sample.
Activities
Hiking - Zion National Park offers many trails ranging from short "leg-stretcher" walks to strenuous adventures. If you wish to go into the backcountry it is best to check in at the visitor center in Zion National Park for detailed information on the trails of your choice. Be sure to bring proper gear for all weather conditions. Even on the warmest day, storms can bring cooler temperatures to the higher regions of the park. Wildflowers & Fall Colors - A variety of life zones and habitats makes Zion an excellent location for wildflower walks in spring and brilliant leaf color in autumn. In the spring the cactus are blooming and Indian Paintbrush is visible throughout much of the summer season.
Photography - Zion National Park offers the photographer many opportunities to explore color, texture, and light. From the valley floor to the highest plateau the scenes change at every turn. Foliage on trails will make an excellent frame to your scenes. Sunrise and sunset present significant changes to lighting on the faces of canyon walls. There is plenty of wildlife (Turkeys, Deer, Lizards, Insects, Squirrels and other birds) to view and the river through the park is spectacular throughout the day. When it rains you’ll find an even more spectacular experience with waterfalls coming down over every rock face. Consider yourself blessed if it rains while you are in Zion.
Bicycling - The Pa'rus Trail offers a paved, carefree alternative for bicyclists to connect with the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. Shuttle buses are equipped with bike racks. Biking is a great experience in and outside of the park with many trails in the surrounding area that will take you to scenic overlooks and through some spectacular backcountry. Check for more details with a local bike shop. - http://www.bikezion.com/ - http://www.springdalecycles.com/
Horseback Riding - Inside and outside of Zion National Park you may enjoy riding horseback along scenic trails and / or to scenic overlooks. Horseback riding in this area takes you back to the times of the old west when many were discovering this region for the first time. Options for riding are for one hour through a full day or multi-day ride. - http://www.canyonrides.com/
ATV Riding - In the areas surrounding Zion National Park you’ll find some spectacular back country and there are few better ways to see more of the scenery than on your own All Terrain Vehicle. Guided tour operators will show you how to operate the machines and then lead you on your adventure. - http://www.atvadventures.com/atv2/
River Tubing - You may ride the river when the water levels are good. Take a nice cool adventure ride through the park and into the town of Springdale via the Virgin River. This is the river that carved the deep and grandiose canyons of Zion National Park. - http://www.ziontubing.com/

Other Area Attractions Bryce Canyon is stunning and unique National Park. Smaller in depth and width than the Grand Canyon , Bryce is more easily accessible to the hiker. Day trips to the valley floor provide a close up view of the mysterious Hoodoo and other strange formations carved by wind, rain and time from the native rocks of this area. Bryce is only a 2 hour drive from the Harvest House.
Cedar Breaks National Monument is another interesting and impressive feature of Southern Utahs landscape, consisting of a bowl shaped amphitheater carved out of stone. Less strenuous hikes around the rim of the amphitheater make for a restful and relaxing day trip. The one to 1 ½ hour drive from The Harvest House takes the visitor though splendid forests past high meadows, volcanic lava flows and a lovely lake. The alternative route back through Cedar City offers an opportunity for shopping or eating at some of the charming restaurants.
Grand Canyon (North Rim)
is a day trip from the Harvest House. The North Rim Park has less
tourist traffic than the south rim. From the park entrance there
is a pleasant drive though forests and meadows to the edge of
the Canyon, which is especially beautiful in the fall. There are
many trails which follow the rim of the Canyon from which visitors
can enjoy the vistas. The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural
wonders of the world for good reason and should not be missed.
It is located approximately 3 hours drive from the Harvest House.
For a complete change of pace Las Vegas with its Glamour and
Glitz is also within driving distance from the Harvest House.
Guests can enjoy the casinos, shows, shopping and music. The lights
on the strip are a sight that everyone should experience at least
once in a lifetime even if gambling and partying are not your
preferred pastimes. Las Vegas is just 2-2 ½ hours from Springdale.
There are many other attractions in Southern Utah which guests
may decide to visit after leaving the Harvest House. These include:
Lake Powel an approximate 5 hours drive, Grand Staircase Escalante
a very recent National Park is a 2 hours drive from Springdale,
and Canyon Lands is about 4 hours from The Harvest House and the
famous Monument Valley which is a 6 hour drive.
